Hello, I need some help fast.
I've had Gulliver, a White's Tree Frog, for about 6 years. When I first got him, I was feeding him every day, but he got REALLY fat (so fat he would fall off the tank glass if he tried to climb it - either his belly would push him away from the wall, or he couldn't hold his weight up.)
I was told I was feeding him too much, and to start feeding him sporadically, because he wouldn't find food that often in the wild. So I started feeding him about once a week, or once every week and a half. And he's been fine with that for years. He slimmed down, was able to scale walls again, and seemed much happier.
Very recently (within the last two or three months) however, his feeding has dropped dramatically. Gulliver normally doesn't eat during a shed (since he eats his shed) and just about everytime I've tried to feed him he seemed to be shedding and uninterested. I can get him to take *A* mealworm or *A* cricket, but nothing after that. He looks really skinny, and sickly, and something I've never seen before, his eyes seem to be bugging out more than usual (you can actually see white rims around them). He looks like he's going to die, and I'm terrified he's starving himself to death. Because he's not eating, I don't have any stool to observe.
I'm really worried about him - please send any help you can! Tomorrow after work I'm going to pick up some vita-life, and see if I can find some kind of appetite stimulant. If he doesn't perk up after another day or so, I'm taking him to the vet. I've seen him go on starvation before - but this seems longer - and he seems worse for it, with no sign of getting better. ANY suggestions are welcome.
Thank you for your help!
