Help!.... Feeding problems

supercooper Jun 06, 2004 09:28 PM

Hey Guys. I've just started feeding my corn live pinkies and he just started eating them alive and not bothering to suffocate them first. He strangled them the first couple of times i fed him live food but the past few times he just ate them alive. is this normal? is this harmful to him.... i mean will the live mice ruin his insides since theyre still alive? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks guys.

My Baby corn Eats his alive 2, but it dies before he swallows it. The pinkie probably wont hurt him, and will probably die in your snakes stomach not much later. If he keeps eating like this I wouldnt try to feed him live bigger mice live. They could probably do some damage.

PERFECTLY NORMAL!!! very common for juvie corns to do this...they only constrict when they feel the need to..no fears!

why not switch to frozen thawed?? you can have a supply of them in the freezer and thaw one out as needed. i hate the thought of anything being eaten alive.
also when your snake is big enough to eat adult mice it's very risky to feed live prey. sometimes the predator will become the prey.

Thanks for all your help guys. I've been feeding him thawed frozen pinkies for a year and a half now but i wanted to switch him to live food because its cheaper for me. a live pinkie is a lot bigger than the cheezy frozen pinkies that i buy at my local pet store. i get 6 of them for $5 but i often have to use 4 of them just cause theyre so small. the live pinkies are alot bigger and they cost only 1.25 each and two is usually enough for him.
