Help, Gecko is in the wall.

fxtux Jun 06, 2004 11:57 PM

My gecko somehow crawled into a hole in the wall where the heat vent is, and I think she's gonna die in there, I don't know how to draw her out. I put a light near the hole, hoping the light or possibly the heat would get her to come back. any suggestions?

I am not laughing AT you, I am laughing WITH you. Try to put a shallow food dish with some mealworms near the hole. You might have to sit there with the lights out & a flashlight. And you might have to do this a couple of nights (sorry). I wouldn't knock a hole in the wall unless you really want to lose that deposit. Is it in the vent or is it in the wall? If it is in the wall, the good news is that studs are usually about 16" apart, so there really isn't very far it could roam. If it is the vent, hmmm... that is a little tougher! The only thing I ever had escape was 5 rats that popped the lid of their cage in my classroom...man was that a looonngg week. I did eventually catch them by setting out some food. Hope you get the little booger.

Try a mouse that chewed through the bag while in my passenger floor board. Happened many times, but I caught them when I got home. This one day, one got out and crawled between the dash and firewall. The little guy was running the electrical wire paths. I was freaking out because I knew this mouse would destroy my as good as new car if left in their one night. Later in the day I was driving home from work, stopped at a red light and in my rear view I see the guy run across my back "dash". I know whoever was behind me could see him even through the tinting. I just couldn't get out to catch him. That evening it took a piece of that super sticky mouse trap paper. Caught him before night came. Had me pulling hairs out of my shaved head just imagining what those teeth would do in my car.

Get a dozen large crickets, seal them in a clear container, then place the container outside the hole along with a dry hide and a humid hide, maybe even a dish of mealworms in case you worry about your leo getting hungry. Then just leave the place alone. Your leo probably won't come out while you're still there. But do check back. You might be lucky enough to find your leo sleeping in one of the hides. That's how I found my escapee anyway.
