New babies-Look okay? (PICTURE)

MissMiniZoo Jun 07, 2004 12:01 AM

This is one of the babies that I have been worried about. Both of the two babies I got bask alot with their eyes closed and are not very active. They do move around, but not much. Their eyes are closed alot of the time. To me, they do not seem puffy or irritated, but again these are my first aquatic turtles. I am going to go purchase Vitamin A eye drops tomorrow. Right now they have a dry basking area that is about 86 degrees and water temp that is about 82. I am trying to keep them warm so if they are ill I can keep their immune system working. I just got these babies on Friday afternoon from what I feel was a horrible trip from NC to IN. Could they just be completely stressed from the shipping? Oh and they do have a UVB/UVA light. Please let me know your opinions from my pics. Do its eyes look bad? Please check my other message to see it with its eye closed.

Here is a shot of its eye closed...they have their eyes shut alot of the time.

It seems like their eyelids sometimes stick shut. They rub at their eyes with their front feet to open them at times...or at least it seems that way. Will the drops help? I have heard this is common in hatchlings...is it and what is the cause?

FYI... we can't see the pictures unless we have a login name for SnapFish. So no one might answer because we cant see the pictures. also, my turtles would sometimes rub at their eyes, and i just figured that they got something in it or something. their eyes were never swollen or puffy... so i took it as normal. their eyes are fine now, so i am guessing it was nothing. but the picture would help.... unfortunately i do not have an account @ snap fish, so i cant view the pictures. hope this helps

You need to upload a picture in the Photo Gallery in one of the categories ie: Chelonians/Red Ear Sliders. It will be there when you are ready to post a picture in the message board.

i actually screwed up last time whenever i told you that you should have 5 gallons of water per inche of turtle... it's actually 10 gallons of water per inch of turtle. so going by this... your tank is already too small for the little guys.... but i would say your first concern is to find out if anything is wrong with them, then worry about the space they are in. sorry for the TYPE-O....

Yeah, thanks. I read that on another site. I have been looking for another tank on Ebay.

Just something I noticed, German Shepherd is spelled with an "e" not an "a" in Shepherd. If you ever need any good info. about German Shepherds I have been dealing with them for quite some time. Check out my web site, its got alot of info. that I put together about the German Shepherd Dog.

Yea, i noticed that i had spelled it wrong too, i just never had a chance to fix it. then when i did have the time, i forgot about it! haha
the German Shepherd in my list has been in our family for about 15 years... she is getting REALLY old and sickly... my mom refuses to take her to a vet because she knows that the vet will want to put her to sleep because she has so much wrong with her. but my mom refuses to put her to sleep unless she's in pain, which she isnt... yet.
the kind of dog i really need info about is my collie. she is a shepherd/collie mix (we believe, got her from a dog pound). but she's VERY high strung... and scared to death of thunderstorms. we have tried everything to help her get over her 'fear' but nothing has worked, and we are trying to stay away from drugging her (some kind of 'herbal' pill @ GNC). but it's not just thunderstorms, it goes for firecrackers as well as wind. the vet says that it isnt because of her hearing too well (which was an excuse that one website said to have tested). so we dont know what to do for her! but that's about it... sorry for talking your ear off!

I love talking animals so no biggie! My oldest female GSD is very high string also. She is deathly afraid of thunderstorms too. I got a drug from my vet that works very good. I was very uneasy about giving her a medication also, but it is well worth it. If you are interested in the name of the med. please let me know and I'll let you know. There are also things that you can buy at places like Petsmart to help calm dogs. I bought one called Pet-Calm (I think that's the name of it) I haven't used it yet since the vet gave me the prescription med. The Pet-Calm stuff is more herbal I believe. Please let me know if you'd like more info. on either. I'd be glad to help. I definitely know how difficult a high strung dog can be! Believe me!

the baby RES' eyes look OK to me... they dont look swollen or anything, so they should be fine. but i would definitely still take it to the vet to get checked out, just to make sure it is healthy. i wouldnt trust anything coming from that company! hope everything works out!
