My Black Throat was less than 2 weeks old when I got him last nov. 11th... he was 7" total length... Now 8 months after I got the little guy he is growing fast and is just about 3' long. I have read that Savannah's can reach 40" in a year but what about BT's? Mine will reach 40" any week now... and if I do say so myself he is the prettiest blackthroat I've ever seen.... I just wondered if 4' or more by 1 year old is above average? I keep proper temps and feed him well (but I don't over feed him)

from everything i hear or read bt's get big quick, i bought mine at 10 inches in january and now he is 26 inches long and shows no signs of slowing down yet.

On Jan 18 I purchased a 12inch btm. He became dehydrated and stopped eating for 2-3weeks, but once he healed he started growing like crazy! By late Feb he hit 24 and is now over 40inches.

like I said at 8 months old my monitor was 34-36"... I just wondered if that was large for his age... I like the Idea of him growing close to 7' (I'm a glutton for punishment) some day I wish to have many reptiles... but I think I only want one large beast. His cage is 8'x3'x2' now, and will have to be added on to when he/she is full grown.... that takes a lot of space.. and while I would like to breed them, I don't know if I ever will be able to keep a whole room just for 1 species of monitor.

oh yeah, my blackthroat Loves to climb when outside... he is always climbing up and down me, trees, and my friends... I am really considering adding a 6'h section to the end of it's cage for climbing... anyone have a blackthroat that climbs as much as mine? He even scaled the corner of the garage!

She was bred by Rob Faust, so I know how old she actually is. She was 5ft long at a year old, she was 41.5 inches at 7 months old. At one time it was said that Fausts crosses dont get big, but she was 6ft 1 inch long a few months ago. They can grow very very fast!!! I also have a BT/WT cross an F1 generation male from Faust that was 2ft long and 2 lbs at 2 years old when I got him, he was 4ft in about a years time, hes now 3.5 years old and 4ft 2 inches. Here Sobek my female is at 2 yrs 5 months.

I remember sobek... I wondered how big she was at 1 year thanks.

The three I had were between 40 and 47 inches after 1-year. Hope that helps. Good luck.
