Next Snake... Help Please!!!

SouthFLBoa Jun 07, 2004 02:42 PM

Hi, I'm looking around for another snake and was wondering if someone can help me out. I am looking for a snake that's not a colubrid, gets bigger than 4 feet but less than 10 feet, and is a snake that you can handle a lot (I don't care if it's an aggresive snake I just want one that doesn't get stressed when handled like tree boas.) It also has to be less than $200.00. I know this is a lot to ask but please give me some ideas.
Thanks in advance

a Central American or Nicaraguan? Most are relatively inexpensive around $50-$150 and stay small. You may find a Hogg for $150-$175, but most are a bit more and some grow to 7 feet.
I'm sure others will be able to give you more ideas....these just came to mind.
Good luck!

Most Boa c. Imperator localities stay unger 10ft, and are known for there "laid back" dispositions. A male colombian boa. A Hogg's Island locality Imperator or a Nicaraguan(sp). You might also look into Brazilian Rainbow Boas, or Argentine Boas (Boa c. Occidentalis). There are plenty of good breeders right here on this forum and in the classifieds. You should be able to get any ofthose animals for $200 or less.

Take Care, Chris

are very beautiful, make great pets, and are reasonably priced. You can even get one from a breeder who have smaller adults or "dwarfs" that breed at around 5 ft. Contact Mike at Basically Boas, I know he regularly produces both normals and dwarfs. I have a pair of dwarfs from the same blood line and love them. They are one of my favorites.

You may also consider Jungle Carpet Pythons, Blood Pythons (although these can be nippy), Rainbows, or many of the Boa Constrictors varieties.

Best of luck,

-Any BCI or BCC locality... if you do not try to powerfeed or overfeed you can curb its size below 10' feet.

-Any type of Rainbow - Brazilian's are the best looking and most will range between 4-7 feet

-Ball Pythons - Adults are 4-6 feet and these have great temperaments and are very easy to care for and cheap (personal recommendation)

-Jungle Carpet pythons

-Dumeril's boa

these are the common boas/pythons between 4-10'. Any snake can be restricted in growth by slowing its feeding schedule at the healthy adult size you would like to maintain (I'm not saying to starve your animals to keep them small).

Good luck and let us know what in particular you want this animal for.
