6x4x4. Thats too small, yet how big is their full grown male? After all my female is only 2.5 years old and is in that cage temporary until I have room for a 10X6X5ft. Well shes a BT/WT/WT cross.

You name the subject hes got it, and it doesnt cost much. Ask questions and Ill try to answer what I can. Ill give her 6ft of verticle space someday she climbs very good outdoors, sometimes too good, when I have to get her back.

what is the size of a full grown female or male and how much do they way

SHvar Jun 08, 2004 09:56 PM

From many owners over the years, and field studies on wild animals that provided info also be able to prove it, 5-7 ft is the average size of adults. I asked Mark Bayless about records of males and females, I knew of 7ft 3 inches for a male, and he verified so far 6ft 2 for a female albig. The weight ranges from 15-38lbs, yet Ive read 35-53lbs for adult BTs, thats very obese, the average of large healthy wild animals in a study was 5-6ft and 15-25lbs if I remember right. I like the idea of referencing a wild animal to see a healthy animal, not a blimp/lazy slug just waiting to and die young. I remember the quote that among extremely superstitious people the biggest ones get killed and eaten by ignorant natives.

that is the minimum size most care sheets say is needed. My juvenile BT is only 28" and he is in a 4ft x 2.5ft cage and i dont feel comfortable with him in that. Also, if you get a BT prepare to feed feed feed feed. They are in my opinion one of the most voracious feeders out of all the monitors, keep in mind i have only kept niles, argus/flavi crosses, BT's and sav's, but out of them all my BT's have always eaten the most and the biggest variety. Im building a 10ft by 5ft by 4ft cage now for them, the more room the better as long as it is properly set up with all the things that make them happy ie. basking site, dig box, hide box large water container changed very regularly etc.... good luck they are lots of fun.

I want to dissuade you from getting a bt. I remember you asking a bit ago if you could strictly feed a monitor on "just insects" because your parents woulndt let you feed anything but insects. Below theres a pic of a bud of mine holding an adult bt. Thats a bigger one than you've seen in awhile(no camera tricks). Can you house this lil booger? If you were as big as him where would you want to live? Better feed him the cricket box.
