Misting

Tell me what you guys think, this is odd though there is reason for it. I have a cage I got from herpcages.com (24x12x12) vented back, but no vented top. In fact the vented back is just the logo punched out. I talked to Doug Barr the owner and he said it was a perfect cage for a pair of cresteds. Ok, now that i've told you all the background info about this cage, let me get to the point. I live in North Carolina, and when I lightly mist the enclosure it stays at 80% for a day and a half and creeps to 70, all and all, it takes like 3 days to get to 60%, and i'm not soaking the cage when i mist it. Is this normal for living down south? I'm thinking the holes in the back aren't enough ventalation, but i wanted to get people's opinions. Oh and for reference my room stays at 50% humidity, and 72F. I really appreciate any help, thanks!

I have several of those cages, but I have vented tops on all of them. Considering that you live in an area of higher humidity, if you're providing a water bowl, you really don't need to mist the cage. In fact, I would spray very lightly and only once per day. If the cage never has a chance to dry out, you're going to see fungal and bacterial growth, which is very dangerous.

I am providing a water bowl, and a UTH (max 80F, and only in one area), so one side stays kinda dry and the other stays humid. I'll take your advice about not misting, and let the humidity drop to 55-60 before Very lightly misting. Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate the help.
