argus help..maybe pregnant?

toothandnail Jun 07, 2004 07:16 PM

hi,
i have an argus, about 1yr 4 mos old. recently she has lost her normally voracious appetite, also she has become less social, not to the point of aggression but hisses at me when she never has before. her belly also remains firm despite her lack of eating. should i assume she may be gravid, or should i be more worried about some kind of gastro intestinal dillema, or maybe parasites. and in case she will be laying eggs can anyone suggest optimal conditions for her comfort as far as setting goes. right now she is in a 6'x2'x2' with about 4" of moist dirt and mulch large basking area, waterbowl large enough for her to completely emerse herself, with temps ranging from 85-95 degrees and basking at about 110. please, any help would be greatly appreciated, the last thing i want is for her to be uncomfortable.

when my odatria monitors are gravid, their appetite is increased, in fact, you'd be amazed at how much a tiny little girl could consume in one sitting.. But then again, this is what i've seen in my collection, which is by no means the "standard"...

Post some pics, and some of the experienced argus keepers/breeders could help you out with your query...

Take care, best of luck to you regardless....

I have kept many Argus and recieved eggs and also am currently getting alot of fertile eggs from my Gouldi/Flavi's. All of my Argus and or Gouldi's do stop eating at least a week before laying. Also they do get large as well (pic). Make sure she has some nesting sites availible. Or a deep dark nestbox. Very important that if she is gravid she gets those eggs out!
Good Luck,
Robert
