Ummmm...silly question

wraithy Jun 07, 2004 07:38 PM

ummm....does it hurt when Panthers bite?? I havent handled my Nosy Be, Mars, since he was a wee lil guy. I need to relocate my chams to their outside cages (out during the day, in at night until it gets warm enough) and Mars, now that he's a big ol dude, looks like he could take a chunk out of my hand.

So..ummm...I know my one female jackson, Lucille, sometimes jabs at me when she's upset but never ever actually bites. My female Nosy, Roja, never even puffs up when i come near her. So I guess the question is...has anyone ever been bitten by a Panther? Did it hurt? Can they draw blood?

LOL....gosh..I feel like a newbie!!!

>:P Genius....

I guess this is a matter of ones pain tolerance. Seeing as I own macaws and amazons the bites of panther chams doesnt really bother me. To your other question yes they can draw blood.

By golly, panthers do bite hard for their wee bity size. the little rotweilers! and yes, they usually draw blood. i have a nasty female ambanja that sinks her teeth in so hard, and swings her head from side to side like she is trying to rip flesh off, you wil lactually hear the crackle of bones. Just not sure whose bones...lol.

Depends on your pain threshold, yes. But also depends on the individual chameleon. My ambanjas will do the mouth agape thing if they're riled up, but they would NEVER bite me on purpose. Okay, they've even 'bumped' my hand with their mouths open, but never bitten me. The little females though... yes, they bite. Yes it 'hurts' (sorta). But no, not to where they draw blood. More of a 'leave me alone or I'll REALLY hurt you' sorta bite.

It may also depend on how they are being handled and if there are any stressors around. If you want to see stupid handling and nasty bites just watch that idiot the Croc Hunter holding 2 chams in Madagascar. I've had to medicate a very large melleri and she regularly crushed my thumb so it blackened the nail.
