There are no stupid questions....

I'm just stupid, lol. I was wondering, what is the difference between a corn and rat snake? It seems the two names are used interchangebly, however there also seems to be some stuff saying that rats grow larger....is there any other difference?

A cornsnake IS a ratsnake. Many of the other ratsnakes of North America do get larger than corns. I have 4 corns and 5 other North American ratsnakes, for a total of 9 ratsnakes. Duffy

okay....so why are there two forums, one for corns and one for rats?

Cornsnakes are sometimes called red ratsnakes. This is an older moniker not widely used.
My guess is cornsnakes have their own forum independent of the other ratsnakes due to their popularity.
All the best,

I think they are different enough to warrant it. Corns are smaller, more morphs, a bit mellower. Rats are more 'assertive' a bit more torqued, bigger and have some morphs, but not bazillions. They are as different as milks and kings for specifics even if they are same types.

Just take a look at the overall popularity of this forum (and cornsnakes in general)and I think that explains it. They are "specialty" ratsnakes that, as Sonya pointed out, have so darn many morphs as to set them apart. Other than the morphs and size factor, my personal opinion is that the "other" North American Ratsnakes are a lot mor LIKE corns than most people think. Their overall care is basically identical, and the bigger ratsnakes often develop personalities that mirror the calmness of corns. I love them both, which is to say I love ALL the North American Ratsnakes. I always qualify that since I have no personal experience with the "ratsnakes" from other continents.
