WASHINGTON TIMES (DC) 04 June 04 Gator on the menu, gator on the floor
Port St. Lucie, Florida (UPI): Diners at Florida's Café Crème were used to sautéed alligator on the menu but were startled when a live gator sauntered in from the outdoors.
It was about 6 p.m. Tuesday when a 4-foot-long gator wandered through the rear door of the German-American restaurant in Port St. Lucie, gave the dinner crowd a once-over and settled near the kitchen.
The creature was "just laying there," said Melissa Behres, an animal control supervisor, told the Port St. Lucie News. "It was weird."
She and another animal control officer snared the gator and took it away to a local wildlife preserve. The crowd cheered and returning to eating.
"I guess they're going to keep the back door closed now," she said.
