Health question....

buffysmom Jun 07, 2004 10:02 PM

My hubby bought an adult (6 yrs) corn on Saturday. His mouth appeared a bit more open on one side, but we opened it at the seller's home & all looked normal. He had a bit of retained shed on his chin. The facility was impeccably clean, so I felt OK about letting him buy him. The seller states he hadn't eaten in a month, however he was housed during that month with a female he'd been trying to "do", so not eating could be normal.
We tried to feed him last night, but he wasn't interested. Today I took him out & can hear a slight wheeze to his breathing. In addition, I've found 2 small, green poop spots in his cage. We've saved them for a fecal.
Do respiratory infections come w/ weird poo? I've upped his temps a bit & encouraged my hubby to take him to the vet. What do you all think is up?

Green poo is caused from him not eating in awhile.Ive seen it with wc.As for the retained sheds and weezing maybe there going hand in hand. What I use to do with ball pythons is soak a pillow case in warm water wring it out and put the snake in and tie it off. Then I set it back in the cage with part of it over the heat mat.By morning any retained sheds, mouth, nose, eyecaps will have come off.I had all but forgot this method till Marcel brought it up a few months ago.I would quarantine your new arrival for a month and let him get used to his new surroundings
if he doesnt eat in a few weeks or he is still weezing I would take him to the vet.

The retained shed is gone already, the lady removed it before selling him to us. My herp vet is gone until Friday, but I made an appointment for Friday before I posted this. Is wheezing/audible breathing always from respiratory infection? How would it be related to the retained shed?

Sometimes the nose doesnt shed right and it gets plugged up.It happened with my bearded dragons alot. It's really hard to get an ri in a corn.I have heard bedding materials can cause resp problems also. Please let us know what happens at the vet.

He took a big dump tonight, right on top of the thermometer, so I got a good look at it It had a slight green tint, but otherwise looked quite normal. I took him out & couldn't hear him breathing anymore. I figure I'll try to feed him in a few days & not worry too much. I still have the appointment for Friday, but may cancel it. I've saved all the poo, so maybe I'll have a fecal done...
Thanks everyone!
