Jungle Carpet Breeding

MichHerper Jun 08, 2004 12:00 AM

Hello,

I have had my pair of carpet pythons together for a while, but never noticed copulation. With in the last 2-3 months my female has gained greatly in weight. They had a cool down period for about 3 months at about 75 degrees. The female continued to feed up until now. I seems like she should have layed them a long time ago. She almost as round as a good size orange, at about 7 feet long. The male is the same length but much less in girth. She started going into shed a few days ago and refused to feed last week. She normally will eat fine even in a shed. I am wondering if her body is just taking longer to produce the eggs or what. Any ideas or advice. I try to gently palpate but don't feel much. Sometimes it is as if I can see the bulges in her belly. But nothing definite. Thanks for any info.

Jeff

if this was her pre-lay shed. I would try to give her a nesting box (I use a plastic tub with some shavings in it) to see if she starts nesting there and to give her a spot to lay her eggs. If she is indeed gravid and this was her pre-lay shed she should lay the eggs in about 3 weeks. Good luck and hope you have an incubator ready just in case.

Oh yeah, had to order an extra one just in case. The other is full of beauty snake, cornsnake, bearded, chameleon and green snake eggs.
