Surprice surprice...............eggs

Jun 08, 2004 03:02 AM

Hi
Sometimes the animals makes a trick on you. I have 2,2 young eastern indigos, and I asked earlier on this Forum, when they matured. The biggest female is only 140 cm, so I was told that she needed another 40 cm for breeding.
Big was my surprice yesterday, when I found 8 eggs in the terrarium.
It is a wrong time. The animals are too young and too small, but 5 of the eggs looks perfect.
So I will keep my fingers crossed
Best wishes

Are you housing these animals together all the time?

The information you got in here was when it is safe to breed females. Not when they are capable of reproducing.

Well...congratulations anyway. Hopefully, your female is OK and those eggs will hatch for you.

Don't know that you didn't, but check her carefully to see she hasn't retained any eggs, just feel her belly and hold her up to look for swellings.

Body weight is just as important as length so I have a feeling you had a nice, plump girl. My first female I ever bred was just a tad over 48" yet laid 10 perfect eggs....but I took a terrible chance and was rushing the process. Since then, I now typically take my time in breeding my females and I usually only breed them over 2-3 years. good luck with your eggs, Rob

Hi
It wasn`t the plan to breed them for at least a year, so I had them seperated during the wintertime. I thought that it was safe to introduce them to each other in the spring, because they should be winter breeders.
The female has no eggs inside any more. The looked like [bleep] after ovoposition, but after drinking a lot, she became more active and today she took 6 jumpers (she was very interested in more)
All together they have really played a trick on me, but tricks like that are welkom especially when this years breeding has been so poor.
Best wishes
