OK, OLD Camera...
I know folks are getting more and more into digicams, but... I just picked up an old Zenit B off of eBay. $30 for an SLR. Burned through a roll of film, yesterday, and came out with some great flower pics. SO, will go after the animals with it before long, too.
The Zenit B is a completely manual camera, not even a light meter. no batteries, no nothin' and pretty much bullet-proof. it being an old russian camera, there are some quality control issues (like on some of them, the mirror return spring is weak and can cause problems), but, for those interested in getting started in photography, I can't think of much better for teaching the rudiments of the art. Plus, you end up with a camera you can take on trips and, if it gets stolen, darn; your bank ain't broke from it.
You might also check out Fred Parker's Ultimate Exposure Computer, should you decide to go with something like that. Myself, I'm absolutely thrilled!!
