Question on Fat-Tail Diet...Help, Please.

jwr0201 Jun 18, 2003 08:52 PM

My daughter's classroom teacher bought a Fat-tail gecko as a class pet to care for & study and I am looking to find out if they have the same diet as my leos. Can fat-tails have a diet that consists primarily of mealworms like my leopards do? Mealies are much easier than crickets to care for. They haven't a clue as far as proper care, so I'm trying to offer helathy care advice. The enclosure is set-up as for leos, so that's no problem. I'm just looking into a good diet for their fat-tail that is easy for them to follow properly. Thanks a bunch! RR

Hi,

Many Fat-Tail geckos won't eat mealworms, or only pick at them. They seem to be much more attracted to the faster-moving prey like crickets. I have 2 babies and 1 female that will eat mealworms but they were started on them. My male won't touch them and will only eat crickets. Try the mealworms, but don't be surprised if the gecko doesn't take to them. A varied diet (& a good gutload) is best anyway, in my opinion.

Thanks

LOL. That is exactly like mine. But AFT require a bit more humidity. So make sure it has a roomy humidity box. And that is about all there is different. Good luck, hope all goes well.
