Dear All,

I visited a croc farm with someone a while ago, and they gave us croc eggs as a gift upon entry (we thought they were yoghurts or something until we looked in the bag, as they were contained in plastic cups!).

It says you can eat them just like a chicken egg after cooking (or you can drain the egg and keep the shell). But I was under the impression that the croc egg white will not become white like chicken egg white, no matter how (or how much) you cook it.

Also, I suppose that the eggs are infertile, right? Well, they have been in the fridge for 2 weeks now, so I'm assuming that if they were fertile, they would not be developing / viable any more. Is this right ???? (or could they be in suspended animation ????)

Also, I noticed that on one of them, there is a more opaque white area on the sharp end of the egg that is uppermost (they were in that orientation in the cups), which I thought meant that an embryo was growing. Unless you get a certain characteristic feature like this for infertile eggs too (didn't think so).

I don't really want to cook one and find myself spooning a croc embryo into my mouth, LOL. Also, I don't really like the idea of cooking one alive. (And draining would be a problem if there is any significant size of embryo; also if it were live and kicking ... ).

Can anyone with some expertise advise me in these matters? Thanks very much for your attention.

Regards,

Omega.
