Albino AFT may be Impacted..need some help!!!..

bblack Jun 08, 2004 07:45 AM

Hi,

My male Albino may be impacted..I have him on half Eco Earth (sorta like Bed A Beast) and half Cali-Sand..He is like 5 inches or so long..He looks bloated and his tail looks to be getting thinner..He also is not eating as much..If I give him like 5 wax worms he would eat one..when typically he would eat them all..and he is not eating any crickets..He does poop though..
Can a gecko with a impaction still go to the bathroom?
I am giong to try soaking him in warm water for the next couple days..any other opinions would be great..I'm trying to use the Vet. as my last option..since something like this could be very expensive and I'm low on funds..Any one else have this problem before and what was the result?

Thanks,
Bill

Impacted geckos cant go to the bathroom. Infact thats the whole problem. In any case, soaking him in warm water will definetly help. Try to do this for 15-30 minutes 3 times a day. Make sure while you soak the water does not get cold. You can also obtain some mineral oil which is a natural laxative. You can get it at longs drugs for roughly 2$. This and the soaking should greatly help. I'm not sertain but I believe vets would have to cut it open and I dont know if I would trust just any vet to do that. Do not feed it anything especially wax worms which are hard to pass during impaction. Definetly do not feed crickets. Infact I wouldnt feed it anything untill it poops. If its poop is full of sand then you know the problem. I am not a big fan of calci sand and I would take it out. It clumps with water and often gets stuck, but thats just my 2 cents (the flipside is that its supposed to be easy to digest, something I have yet to notice). Good luck.

Thanks for the response..
I came home today to find a huge poop, about half the length of the Gecko..so it seems he was majorly constipated. The warm soaking definitely helped him...I think I was feeding him too many wax worms..like 5-9 in one sitting..well lesson learned only a couple waxworms a week..
I did remove the cali-sand and put paper towl where the hotspot is..
Thanks Again,
Bill
