New to Collards some questions?

perley13 Jun 08, 2004 09:28 AM

I just got 2 new collards yesterday a male and female. The male I noticed has some small lumps on him about 4 they look a little like warts, I was wondering what they could be if they are ok and if not how do I take care of them he is about 2 years old.
The female I have had eggs in her and this morning she laid them they told me they most likly would not be fertile and I don't think they are because they are somewhat sunken in. My question with her is she did not eat yesterday and today when I put in the crickets, the male goes right after them all and she just sat there will it be a couple of days before she starts to eat again?
If someone could let me know the answers that would be great. Otherwise I've had them for two days and I'm already in love with them. The male I have name Chops not sure what to name her yet.

Hi, First let me congratulate you on your new little buddies, they are very cool, and I'm sure you will love them.

Now are the lumps you are seeing on the male reddish or tannish?
If so they may be mites, were they wild caught recently?

If so these thank goodness, are not as hard to eliminate as the little black snake mites.

You can just rub olive oil all over the lumps anywhere you see them and it will smother the mite.

As far as your lady lizard, would not worry yet about her not eating, common sometimes after laying. She should perk up.

Also they usually lay again 3-4 weeks after the first clutch of eggs. So you may have to go through it all again.

Let us know if those lumps are tannish , or reddish, usually near eyes, around armpits, anywhere where there is softer skin.

Or a pic would be great if you can do that and show us, we love meeting the new forum lizards anyway

The lumps are brownish and are only on his back and legs none around his head.

Thank you for responding quickly. I don't know how to post a pic.

I would suspect mites id they were.

They can be a brownish tan, as they suck blood , you may notice them getting orangey.

Just keep an eye on them. As far as posting pics, do you have a digital camera?

And do you have your pictures on your computer in a file somewhere?

If you do, we can help with the rest, let us know!
