screen for top of tank

lola44 Jun 08, 2004 09:49 AM

I need to find a screen to use for the top of a 6ft by 2ft tank, I'd like to have the uvb and basking light sitting on top of it so it needs to be heat proof. Also will a screen allow enough uvb to filter thru? Any suggestions? Thanks, L

When I need one I usually just build a simple frame out of 1x2 or 2x2 and then staple down 1/2" wire mesh. Pretty simple and cheap.

Ya, the wire mesh will stand up to the heat. For the bulb, I've never heard of a 6ft UV bulb. This is where you run into problems with converting old display cases (I've done a few of them). A lot of the fixtures in them were only made for display cases and even regular bulbs are hard to find, and some are just not made anymore. You would probably be better off ripping the old one out and putting in a standard 48" fixture, if you know anyone with electrical skills they can make this fit in really nice for you.

Ya, I was kinda getting that impression, that 6ft was too big to find, thanks for confirming that for me and I'll stop looking, if its that hard to find now I'll just save my time and use a 48" one. Thanks again for the info about the bulb and about the screen. Lo
