cypress mulch is a big no no. if your going to use a substrate just use aspen. the chemicals in cypress are very hazardous to snakes, even if its 'orgainc'

Cypress is absolutely fine, great in fact. You're confusing it with cedar, which is the big no-no!

hey man I can buy that stuff then and use it with my ball and burmese? I noticed it said red so I was not sure. And just checking the 3 Cu. Ft means it would fill up a box that was 3'l 3'w x3'h

If it's not dyed, it will not cause ANY probs.

Cypress mulch is great for a substrate but I would suggest staying away from the Red Cypress Mulch. It has been died RED for appearance in flower gardens and such and might have toxic side affects. The normal regular cypress mulch is cheaper and is what I would recommend using instead.

You can get the regular Cypress at Lowes as well. I get mine at either Wal-Mart or Home Depot. I am not sure where you are but here the normal Cypress sells for about $2 for a 3 cubic Foot bag.

I would also like to add my $0.02.

Check your local feed store for cypress mulch/aspen. You can usually buy substrate in bulk from a feed store, but check it over for mites before using.

is how you react to cypress mulch. I got it recommended to me. I almost went and got some. Then I got a couple snakes from a friend that were kept on cypress....I itched for days just from handling the snakes that had been living on the cypress mulch. It took a good week plus on newspaper, and a bath (for the snakes) before I could handle them without hives and prickling. Then I went to Lowes and literally dug into some mulch with my hands, to see if it was the mulch causing the reaction....yuppers. No cypress mulch for my beasties.
