I just moved to Perris, CA 6 months ago. VERY hot, very dry. Just south of the Mojave Desert and west of Palm Springs. I'm constantly watering my chameleons and I water my lawn as much as possible (to increase humidity levels and help cool them some). I've noticed a toad that has moved in to my yard, slightly bigger than a child's fist. Very cute lil guy. I guess he's eating the escape bugs and enjoying the increased humidity I'm providing.
Thing is, he's a FULL GROWN toad. No clue where he came from, where he lived before he found my little oasis. I see him almost nightly, walking around the sides or front of the house, desperately searching for a way in (as if he wants me to fully adopt him). I heard some toads chirping about a mile away during the rainy season, but haven't seen nor heard from any other toad except for this guy since. I'm just very impressed that this little amphibian is able to survive in such parched conditions.
