What to buy?

I have kept reptiles for a few years but I,m just starting to keep boas/pythons. I want a boa or a python that can be kept in a 55 gallon aquarium or smaller, one that is not too expensive, one that is fairly docile, and one that is active during the day or atleast sleeps/lays where I can see him. I have already concidered a ball python so don't bother to reccccccomend a ball. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading!

You want yourself a carpet python then. 55 gallon? Maybe a LITTLE on the small side as an adult, but will do quite well until then. Quite arboreal. Will use branches and perches extensivley, can usually be had for around a hundred bucks (depending on a few things of course), and very docile.

Really, i thought that carpet pythons were aggresive. Depending on the shape of the tank, I think a tree boa or pythnon would be really cool. even though they are a little aggressive.

Carpet pythons have an undeserved reputation as being aggressive. If acquired as a juvenile, they tame down quite nicely. As for the tree boas, not only are you talking a very aggressive snake, but also very expensive, which I believe were two of your stipulations of which you didn't want.

Oops. Stipulations of the thread starter, not you i_am_nick.

my jungle carpet is quite active. likes to hang out in the open. i just moved her to an 80 gallon tank from a 40 gallon breeder. need to get some branches for her. she is a great pet snake. bought her as a yearling and she has been docile to handle. they are not a 'lap' snake like some boas but i think she is cool. paid $180 for her at a local store. she eats f/t medium rats right now and is 5 foot long. average 6-8 feet.

Tree Boas are REALLY nasty! The pet store near me is pretty well known for their exotics and the guy breeds all his own kings, rat snakes, milks and some boas/pythons. He had about 3-4 hatchling Emerald tree boas for sale going for 220 a piece. Beautiful snake but VERY aggressive. I was actually looking at them for a purchase and the owner, being that I know him and all, told me straight up. You DONT want one of those. They are an aggressive snake and most of the time STAY nasty. He showed me by opening the lid and EVERY one of em went out to give him a bite..I just laughed.

He said they are the type of snake that is for someone who has kept snakes for about 10 years or so and knows what they are doing. I settled for a cali king since I have only really gotten back into herps in the past two years.
