Pacman refuses to eat

sirfugu Jun 08, 2004 03:09 PM

Ok i know this may sound silly and im prolly just overreacting but my pacman hasnt eaten anything since i bought him 3 days ago. i tried crix, wax and a meal worm and he shows no interest at all. i guess it could be that he is still getting used to his home and isnt hungry. thats another thing tho, i did my research and wasnt expecting an active frog but hes moved aprrox 3 inches since i bought him. the girl said he was gonna be like owning a pet rock but i never woulda thought it would be like this. my only real worry is that im going on vacation in a few days and was wondering if he would be ok not eating for a week. dont want to starve him and i have someone to feed him i just doubt they'll stand over him and watch him eat. Any advice would be great.

Give him some time to adjust to his new surroundings. How big is he? When they are bigger they do not eat all the time. Make sure when you leave on vacation that whoever watches him that he has a fresh bowl of water everyday(make sure it is dechlorinated) and throw a couple crickets in. He will eat when he's hungry.

Agreed. But remember, a horned frog needs a varied diet of dusted/gutloaded insects. Do not leave any feeders in the tank with the frog for any period of time either. If they are left in there, they could actually nibble and bite the frog.

And the sign says "No long hair freaky people need not apply." So I put my hair under my hat and I went in to ask him why. He said you look like a fine outstanding young man I think you'll do. So I took off my hat I said "Imagine that Huh Me working for you."-Tesla

i found out when i got home today my pacman is no longer living. i only had the thing 3 days and its dead. dont know what i did. my mom thinks i over declorinated his water but i dont know how this could be. im very distraught even tho i only had him such a short while. i dont think ill buy another animal and just throw the tank away

Should take the frog to get a necropsy. That way you will be able to see what went wrong or if it was your fault at all. Most likely if it had just been three days, there was something already wrong with the frog before you bought it. Did you examine the frog before you bought it? Did the staff seem knowledgeable? Where did you buy it? But as I said, if at all possible, refrigerate the body and take it to a vet ASAP for a necropsy.

Like Snakeguy88 said, you could go to a vet for a necropsy.

I wouldn't recomend you to throw the tank away, try again. My first Leopard Gecko many years ago, died, prolly of impaction. Then me and a friend bought some Salamnders, they died of very improper care. I just listened to the petstore, and that didn't help much. I had a few pets since, and now a Hornedfrog and a Waterdragon comming.
Again like Snakeguy88 said, it may not have been your fault.
Had the frog been sitting in his waterbowl?

Good Luck

If it's only been three days I'd take it straight back to the place where you purchased it and get your money back. More likely than not the frog was sick beyond the point of no return before you acquired it.

Don't give up! Try it again, but this time get a frog from a breeder or a reputable source. Wait for a reptile show if there are any in your area. Those are great places to buy frogs (usually). Chalk it up as experience, and try again. You'll have success eventually, and you'll be glad you didn't quit!

i agree with bovox...........you should not give up.....horned frogs r very very hardy creatures and the very basic needs are more than sufficient for them to survive......go back to the store and ask for a refund or a replacement......my guess is that its sick even before you bought it.....

cheers and good luck for your future pets
