i am soon going to have to get new mercury vapor(my choice) bulbs for my 2 cages. i now have powersun 100watt, but temp is around 110 so i want to lower it a little. i was wondering if i can use ANY mercury vapor bulbs or ones designed for reptiles??

same thing and at 12" (the minimum distance that ZooMed recommends you put your basking spot from that lamp) it's about 95F.

bulbs made specifically for reptiles (i.e., ZooMed Powersun, Active UV Heat, Capture The Sun) and you should use them. Standard MV bulbs won't put out the UVB that your beardie needs.

I get mine at Big Apple Herp, but lots of places carry them. If you go to a place like Petco, however, expect a markup of about 75% over what an online place will sell them for!

are there any reptile uvb mercury vapor bulbs that are under 100 watts

No, they are all higher wattages. Your best bet is to move the bulb furthur away from the basking spot.

bulbs, but they're not self-ballasted so you have to get a tran$former. They do claim to have the same (or higher) levels of UVB, but not the heat of the 100W.
