crocs in northern florida

jpaner Jun 08, 2004 06:16 PM

Hello -
I'm looking at moving to northern florida and I will have several crocs that will need warmer temperatures than the "cold" winters can provide. This is usda zone 8, and the avg Jan temp is only 50F, with an avg low of about 40F. There will be a number of days that are below freezing.

My question is what do places like St. Augustine's do in the winter? I know the alligators will be fine, but what about the crocs?

John

I can heat the water a bit, but the air temp is still going to be very low (maybe as low as 30F).

according to a caretaker at the St. Augustine Alligator farm, their croc pools are heated and each evening in the winter, they go in to each pen and chase the crocs into the water so they won't freeze overnight
