How long til they leave their egg?

Passport Jun 08, 2004 08:35 PM

These adorable little heads are sticking up out of their eggs but not even one of them has made their exit. The first one pipped early this morning. And three more have their noses out also. Now I am impatient and want to see them so badly. When can I expect them to slither on out? I did fine up until now and just don't know what to expect. Will they just suddenly decide to come on out? Or do they wait until I am looking the other way? Or after I go to bed? Or to work? Does it usually take 24hrs for hatching to take place after pipping?

It can take even longer than 24 hours for them to emerge...the little teases! I've had them go 36hrs in a few cases, but they usually start to come out by 48hrs. They may even get halfway out and go back in a few times before coming completely out and staying out for good.
Best of luck, show us some pics when they do pop out!

I was greeted this morning by three (so far) Brooksi babies out of their eggs. Two were buried in the vermiculite and the third was curled in a corner. Others are pipping and I see a second lavender nose. Out of a clutch of 12, only two (so far) out of 6 hatched are lavender. I hope to see more albino's hatching. I was hoping for 50-50. The babies are real fatties, strong and vigorous. What fun this is. Can't wait to post some pics.
