At the risk of sounding dumb..........

What is the difference between GTP's?

What is a Biak, or a Chondro? Different snakes, or morphs?

What is the average temperment on the different kinds?

Are some harder to keep than others?

Thanks.

First check out www.finegtps.com
Lots of info on there.

Biak is a locality of GTP.
Chondro refers to the old scientific name given to GTP

What is the difference between GTP's?

Not much at all. All chondros are compatible with between localities. Only slight differences exist, and sometimes they aren't distinguishable.

Biak is an island race of Green Tree Pythons. Chondro is another term used for all GTPs. The former scientific name was Chondro python, which was changed in the mid 90's to Morelia viridis. So to answer your question, you could say "that's a nice Biak chondro." Biak, Aru, Sarong, Jayapura, Cape York are all locality specific chondros......just the location of origin.

What is the average temperment on the different kinds?

Temperments vary from one individual to the next. Most Biaks have unpredictable tempers and are very aggressive. Most Arus are gentle, but there are opposites of both. You just have to learn to read the individual behavior of the animal.

Are some harder to keep than others?

Yes......in one way. CAPTIVE BRED chondros from a RELIABLE AND REPUTABLE BREEDER are the BEST place to start. Prices are a little higher, but not enough to blink an eye at. Breeders usually make sure babies are feeding on their own for several months before offering them for sale. Plus you don't have to worry about the little bugs that come with some import animals. There are a couple of breeding facilities in Indonesia with very nice animals, but most dealers have no idea what animals they are getting. Stick with the safe choice and go with U.S. captive bred and born. You won't be sorry.

Thanks.

You're welcome.

Actually, the former scientific name of the green tree python was Chondropython viridis. You are right about the newer scientific name.

Thanks for the clarification Joe. I actually knew that, but it's been so long since I've used the old name. My age and memory isn't what it used to be either. lol.
