Foaming turtle

kamzstan Jun 09, 2004 12:50 AM

Hello,
I have a Chinese yellow mangled box turtle and he doesn't seem to be doing well. I took him to the park and he suddenly started foaming at the mouth. So I take him back home, he didn't eat for a few days and was a little lathargic. Now he is eating but he is biting his shell and his arms and is a little stuffy in the nose. He does have conjunctivitis that we are working on so I don't know if that is the reason behind all of this. Does anybody know about why he might be doing this? Thanks!

You need to get your turtle to a vet. From what you've described, your turtle probably also has respiratory problems, and could have a raging infection.

Are you speaking of a yellow margined box turtle? Coura Flavomarginata? You need to get it to a vet quick! That is a very special turtle.

I actually work at a vet and did take him in. We did some enviromental changes to see if it helps, but nobody had heard of a turtle foaming before. Just wondering if anybody had the same experience.
