blue-green water

the turtles water is blue-green. why? i havent changed the filter in 3 weeks....but i get a net and pick up poo and plants and all that stuff.

It's the chlorophyll of the plants that makes the water that color. The filter should get rid of it. What kind of filter do you have?

i have a fluval 304. how long should the blue-green water last? should i take the plants out? should i add new plants?

I don't think a 304 can handle the size tank you need for a RES. How big is your tank? Maybe you should get a 404, or at least another 304 so you can have two in there. I wouldn't worry about the plants though. I only give my turtle plants once in a while and then take them out when he is done tearing them up. The water does get green and grose, so I change the water and that's why he doesn't have plants all the time in there. Then again I have a Painted.
Maybe someone with a RES and permanent plants in their tank can answer your question better.
