Sick baby ball

graycat274 Jun 09, 2004 09:10 AM

Hello! How's everyone?
I 'rescued' a baby ball last week from the local pet store - around here we call it "Pet H*ll". There were 2 of them and one looked terrible. Normally, I just pity the bunches of snakes and walk by, but these two looked in need of some lovin' so I asked to hold them. When the clerk gave them to me they felt like little ice cubes so I blasted her for keeping them so cold and bought them on them spot. Named them Laurel and Hardy since one was full bodied and the other was really lean. Hardy is doing very well, no mites or ticks (imagine that from a pet store!) But Laurel, poor little guy looks terrible. He has clear eyes, drinks water normally is pretty active and is also clear of mites and ticks but his skin is hanging off of him and he hasn't eaten. Vet said to keep him comfy and hope he developes an appetite. He's just too small and weak to test for illnesses.
Any suggetions on how I can bring him back to health? He's kept by himself in a warm environment, doesn't weez or blow bubbles and flicks his tongue at normal rate. Seemed to enjoy being held, although I've left him alone for the last 2 days since he can't afford to loose the enegry he's expending. Help!

Thanks,
Graycat

It's good that you are keeping him separate. I would provide two hides - warm end and cool end - and plenty of water. Leave him alone for at least a week - in privacy.

Then you might try to feed him something small, at night, in the dark.

Keep us posted.

Thank you! I also saw your idea about a paperbag and I'll try that too! This little guy is just a normal and I don't even know if it's male or female but he's so tiny and helpless I couldn't help it! Poor little thing only weighs 46g!

Thanks again!
