Mexican Black Kingsnake husbandry question

alkaur Jun 09, 2004 12:35 PM

I've read that MBK's like rocky areas, would it be a good idea to take some big rocks and put them in the tank with him/her so he/she can crawl around the rocks and crevices? If so, how exactly should I clean the rocks to put in and what kind of rocks? Could I just use some normal everyday rocks from outside?

I'm not sure how to clean - maybe a bleach and water solution and make sure it's completely dry?

But when you put them in the cage I'd make sure they can't be knocked over possibly crushing your snake - maybe glue them together or something like that.

I was thinking more along the lines of heavier rocks, the kind a snake can't possibly move let alone knock over ^_^

Would it be a good idea to put those in or could the MBK care less about rocks?

MIne does seem to like to climb over things and I'm all for giving them a variety of choices of deco, etc.

I'd still be wary and never underestimate the strength of a snake. You might want to check into those Rep-Tiles. They look neat and easy to superglue together.

Thanks again Tiger ^_^

Everyone on the B-P.net forums kept asking if I was not getting a BP anymore cause I was asking questions about Corns and Kings and I kept telling them I'm still gonna get a BP but I wanna prove my worth with something less demanding and I just love the look of BMK and also Blizzard Corns but I can't find those anywhere >_<

I sent an Email to the owner *I think* of the www.snakemuseum.com and he said that they wont have anymore BMK babies until July T_T Do you know of anywhere else I could try to find some?

I'll see if I can find some more MBK's.
Try cornutopia.com and southmountainreptiles.com for the blizzards.

Here's some possible sources - I've heard good things about these:
www.eastbayvivarium.com/pricelist/colubridlist.html

www.snakesatsunset.com/index.html

www.renegadereptiles.com/

Here's some others, but I've not heard any feedback on these:
www.kingsnake.com/bhb/kingsnakes/kingsnakes.html

www.angelfire.com/nc/snreptiles/colubrids.htm

www.exoticsbynature.com/snakephoto.html#king

www.kingsnake.com/Isisreptiles/

It might also help you search to know that some call them Sonoran Black Kingsnakes.

www.snakesatsunset.com looks pretty good. Snakes are a bit more expensivethen usual, but the shipping is much much cheaper.
I think I'll send them an email, thanks again tiger ^_^
