Landers last week....speckled

jeph Jun 09, 2004 04:03 PM

Hi,
A friend of mine-(not really into herps but I needed a friend for the ride) went to landers. When we first got there we saw a nice looking speckled, saw a desert horned lizard, a big leopard lizard and a juvi. chuckwalls-(couldnt get pics of the leopard or the chuck though) we also saw some more snakes that night, but the speckled was the only one in landers. Heres is the speckled, really nice colors. Light pink hues over its body. It was a bit pissed too-(usually the seem calm) but it was a close one that almost got stepped on, they just blend so well there) enjoy the pic...

Hi,
I was so happy to see this guy. When I was younger-(about 10 years ago) I would catch these things all over around here-(in san bernardino, all over the foothills) but now i dont see them ever. Infact this is the first one I've seen for a while now.I just watched him crawl about for a minute till he went into a little bush and was nearly invisible in it-(probally walk past them all the time).

Pioneer town later that night, a juvi. I'll try post pics soon, i havnt put it in my pc yet though. It didnt have the pink coloration like this one. But I hear that speckleds change through the years with their pattern. I saw one in whitewater last year that was more greyish color.

I hear those are hard hunting, very secretive. I would like to find one myself.
