Undertank heater and Lights

I have an under tank heater and was wondering if i should pput any lights on top of my kings cage? It looks a little dark sometimes during the day.. I hear snakes dont like bright light. is this true? Should i put any lights on top?

you really need to see the animal during the day. And then use the dimmest bulb that will fit your requirements.

In nature, snakes do not require UV light the way lizards do. In fact, they are evoloutionarily designed to get the "sunlight" nutrients from the stored supplies held in the livers of their prey, which capacity lizards lack.

Plus, they prefer contact with a warm surface to regulate their temperature, as opposed absorbing radiant heat from an overhead source. This is why you find snakes UNDER rocks while the lizards are scampering about ON the rocks. This is not to say you'll NEVER find a snake basking. Rattlers particularly, and gopher snakes, are often found curled up in the grass or next to a rock. But kingsnakes? Almost never.
