new burm

got my first burm today its a male albino green hes about 7 feet long but only weighs 8lbs. is that normal? hes about 4 yrs old and is very tame. guess he wasnt fed a ton about once a month from what i heard. he looks healthy and isnt aggressive at all. i just fed him two large rats do you think thats to much? how much should i feed him to put some weight on him?? thanx for any input jason

Well, if it was being fed once a month and you fed it two large rats it might be a little to much to start off with. See what happens though. Might be OK usually when mine dont eat for a awhile I give them small meals and work them up. Seven ft, mine was taking rabbits at that size. Small ones, about 1 - 2 pounders and now she is eating three pounders once a week. If you want it to get thicker give it rabbits. I would see how it does with those and then once a week from there. Just my thought

seems to be doing ok with the rats he downed them with no problem good so far!

I completly agree. My male is not quite 2 years old and is about 8.5' and weighs almost 20 pounds. He hasn't made the switch completely to rabbits but when I introduce the head of the rabbit in his mouth when he is finishing up a rat he will easily eat a 3 pounder. I will start him off slow but gradually increase the size until he is eating more adequate sized meals. once you get him on rabbits you should see him thicken up pretty quickly. Todd
