First time using Nolvasan ....

Alien-reptiles Jun 09, 2004 10:44 PM

This is my first time im going to use Nolvasan to clean my cages. I got it at the vet and I was wondering can I just start using it or should i mix it with water and do all that. If there anything I shouldnt not clean this with can I clean the cage with my Reptiles in the cage or will it bother them and just to be safe should I remove them. Also after I spray in cage and scrub around, am I done or do I need to spray down with water and then dry or what?

can you please answer the rest of the question i first asked along with that

Sure ... I never spray it on or near any animal because it can be an irritant. I rinse everything i use it on with cool clean water. There may be better methods out there, these are only my personal preferences.

Hope this helps.

Dilute it as already mentioned. If I'm just spot cleaning I spray and wipe - I remove my snakes, but it's safe for them. Vets even use it as a mouth/wound wash for reptiles. If I'm doing a full cleaning I first clean (hot soapy water), rinse, soak in Nolvasan to disinfect (at least 15 minutes), rinse and dry. Nolvasan is a disinfectant - it's not a cleaner. So you still should do a full cage cleaning periodically then follow up with a good disinfecting soak every once in a while.

may already be diluted. I know some repackage the concentrate and sell it as "ready to use".

I spot clean with all my reptiles still in their cages. That's not to say if I'm doing a full clean I won't take them out first.

I've also used it to get rid of a minor bacterial infection on one of my dragons. I've heard it can also be used on amphibians without a problem. If that's the case it's a pretty good bet it's safe for your snakes. The stuff is awesome!
