I'm looking into making a nice setup for 2 baby RES. I know that a lot of you use regular fish aquariums. I've read that the hoods from fish aquariums will filter out the UVB rays from the flourescent light cause of the glass on the bottom, but the glass is needed to protect against splashing right?? I was wondering if there's some special type of hood you guys buy, or if there's a way to take out the glass?? Just trying to make sure that either my aquarium hood is ok, or that there is something else i need to get so my babies can get the light they need. just wondering what you guys do for this, thanks.

I just use a regular strip light that can be bought at any petstore. It doesn't have any glass on it. Then I use a wire mesh top for the tank. Usually these are used for terrariums, so look for them in the reptile section. But make sure when you turn your basking light on, move the strip light away; the basking light will melt your strip light if it is too close. I hope this info helps a bit. Good luck!
