leachie feeding

cowpers Jun 09, 2004 11:28 PM

hi... so as you all know i just received my new baby leachie... i was wondering though... yesterday night i put some peach baby food out for him and although he was active as his light went out... i didn't notice him eatin any of the baby food even though he ended up falling into it at one point... i chalked it up to the fact that he had just gotten in that day... tonight though... i put out more baby food and i still have no noticed him eating... i was just wondering if he would be able to find the food himself... his enclosure is relatively big given that he is only 2 months old... should i be concerned that i have not witnessed him feeding or is he probably just doing it when i finally go to bed... i'm getting leachianus diet within the week but i figured baby food would be fine until then... is this a legitimate concern or am i overreacting? thanks... this will be a learning process for me since monitors and snakes (ball pythons and solomon island ground boas) were the majority of my collection until now.. thanks!-paul

try using shallow feeding bowls, the ones you have for water and feeding look too deep for the little guy to lick out of. I use drink lids from gatorade bottles for my leachie to eat out of. try that and see if you can notice little lick marks in the food. hope you enjoy your leachie

I agree! Feeding bowls are much too big!!! You can even use the tops of the baby food jars for dishes! For my Cresteds, I bought one of those feeding bowls that have a suction cup to stick on the glass higher up in the cage. Be sure to have a piece of wood leading up to it, so it would be easy for him to access. They don't eat that much of it at once, just lick at it.
Give that a try, he'll really appreciate it!
