???? about uro food.Mixed soup.

Flavia Guimaraes Jun 09, 2004 11:43 PM

I noticed that when i give my 2 uros dry iguana or dry birds pellets they become constipated and stop defecating. As i dont want them to have kidney failure i stopped doing that and im giving them iguanas salads, only. Now i wonder whether the mixed soup grains will make them constipated too.Is mixed soup grains very dry too?

Thanks for any comments, Flavia

Yes, the bean soup mix is dried beans. I have not had problems with the dry mix with four different species of uros. I use the split yellow peas, split green peas, brown lentils, juvenile iguana food and bee pollen. I have not tried the soup mix as the ones I found had lots of kidney beans, so after I would remove the kidney beans, there was not much left for the price. I leave the dry mix in at all times. Good luck.

Well lets make sure you understand that they are not to get this mixture as their main source of food. If Uro;s are givin this is a primary diet then yes they will get compacted and then you have a larger problem then you ever wante to deal with. Im not exactly sure on what the make up beans are in your "soup mixture". However, the last post was correct please remove all lime, and kidney beans. Their phosphorus levels are way to high. One you have done that then trow them into a coffe grinder or food processer that can grind them into smaller pieces or powder. Ever sincei have been working with these creatures i have not had one that has had issues or problems from this. It works best if you mix it with a small amount of the calcium powder you are using and then you can sprinkle over food or place in a small dish in their cage. This is alot like some geckos that eat baby food. They leave the small bowl of baby food in their enclosure and remove it and replace it after a certain amount of days. BUT....don't get fooled into thinking that this is all they can eat..remember by nature they are vegetarians and they need those nutritional aspect before the beans.
