2 days ago I had a prolapse occur with one of my female Chondros. I treated it as one normaly would who has experienced this unfortunate not all that uncommon malady. However, it did not respond to treatment....the only lifesaving response from normal treatment was she did not suffer substantial tissue damage. After swallowing pride and knowing time was not on my side to save this animal, I located a Vet (just out of med school) that is a herp fanatic and was anxious to help
I should note this is a 6 yr old captive born & raised "Aru" type GTP that produced her first successful clutch in November of '03.
Upon putting her under sedation using sevoflurane induction, closer evaluation discovered this to be a uterine prolapse due to a unfertilized egg stuck in her ovary. Remember, her first and only egg clutch was 8 monhs ago. The egg was surgically removed from the oviduct and the prolapse was replaced. Nylon sutures were used on her vent to prohibit prolapse from reoccurring. These will be removed in 5 or 6 days.
My question is, has anyone out there had to deal with this type of malady, and if so, what was the impact on successful reproduction after.
I plan to give her this year off for breeding due to this, however, I am concerned about future occurances of this type as well as what probs she will have due to scar tissue formation from the surgical procedure.
Anyone with experience dealing with this type of problem that can offer advice will be greatly appreciated.
Advice posted here could help anyone else with the same, but private email will be welcomed as well.
Thanks in advance,
Thanks to KS.com for the venue
