gravid female update.... again.

dan_binderup Jun 10, 2004 01:14 AM

Hey.
last night my female "droped" me 2 slugs and one live baby, the baby was just not big enough to make it, it still had a lot of yolk, so my guess is that it is about half a month to early. any way she ate the baby and nothing more happened, I think it looks like she maybe carries more in her, but I am not sure at all. is it possible that she still carries babies, and perhaps go all the way with the rest? I just don't think 3 eggs sounds like a lot. hope you guys can give me some peace in mind.

Best regards

Dan,
...What did the baby look like? Snakes get most of their color in the last week of gestation. Fullterm babies are often pale colored and get colored up completely the first few days after they are laid. If the baby had much color it was probably approaching full term. They also absorb large amounts of yolk material the last week. Fullterm babies are often laid with large globs of yolk material still attached. I have had litters with as few as two slugs. I have also had litters that were laid over a several day period.
Good luck,
Jeff

Hey Jeff.
The baby was pretty pale, but it did had some color. is it possible taht the baby could have made it, if I had put it in at seperate box? It did seem very weak. about the numbers of eggs, is 3 not a fairly small amount of eggs?

Best regards

Dan,
. It is not likely that the baby would have survived. 3 is a very small litter. Keep watching your female. Even though she ate a mouse she may still not be finished laying the litter.

I fed the female a mouse today and she ate it, I guess this means that she does not carries any more..... or what?
she is still very grumpy so I better leave her alone for awhile.

If anybody got an oppinion about this please feel free to share.
