When are your clutches do to hatch?

carl3 Jun 10, 2004 01:46 AM

I am just curious. I haven't bred corns in a while but remember my babies hatching out around late June/early July. It seems like many of you are expecting babies around late July through August? (correct me if I'm wrong). Why so late now? Colder/Longer winter? Anyway, what are your expected hatching dates?

This has been a super late season for me this year, here I am into the 10th day of June and I don't even have my baby Boas yet, which normally go at the end of May. My eggs normall come at the end of April but did not arrive until the very end of May this year, but they are also more eggs this year too so it is going to be a good year, Just everyone seems to have gotten a jump on me this season.

Let's See....

Aphrodite x Hermes ... which should be 1/2 normals het hypo and stripe, and 1/2 motley striped het hypo... 10 eggs... they are on day 36 of incubation. If they go 60 days they'll hatch on the 4th of July

Athena x Hermes.... should be 100% normal striped het anery.... she laid 6 slugs and 6 fertile eggs, one went bad, so I'll expect to get 5 nice babies.... day 34 of incubation, they'll hatch on the 6th of July if they go 60 days

Calypso x Hermes.... Should be all normals het stripe and amel, unless he's het amel (which I believe he is) in which case I'll get a 50/50 mix of normals and amels all het for stripe. she laid 21 eggs, 20 are still good....day 32 of incubation, they'll hatch on the 8th of July if they go 60 days.

I put Hermes in with Athena and Aphrodite over the winter. They bred when they felt like it, or when Hermes got interested! Obviously he got pretty interested all of a sudden, since they laid their eggs at two day intervals. Calypso was received in the mail from a friend who only had ONE snake who had been healthy for six months so I considered the animal quarantined before she even got here, and placed her with hermes... he was locked with her within a single minute of her being placed in the cage. 39 days after she arrived, she laid her 21 eggs.

Other clutches I have "cookin"

CAlifornia King eggs.... 12 eggs laid, 2 went bad early, one is going bad now, 9 look like they'll hatch and should hatch on the 8th of July (they were being laid while Calypso's were being laid)

California King eggs.... 15 laid, the female was gravid when our AC went out and it appears that the heat she endured for three days was detrimental to the health of the babies. of the original 15 there are maybe 6 that are still good... and these are questionable. IF any hatch, they'll hatch the 22nd. BUT... I'm afraid that even if they do hatch, they'll be deformed. BUT we'll see.

The two cali kings, and one of the corns might double clutch.
I'm almost hoping they won't. Lotsa work!

My first corn eggs should be hatching out the 3rd week of July. I should have clutches hatching out every week after that right on through September. Several females have not put down their first clutch and one is laying as I'm typing this. I expect a few to double clutch.
This is not late for me. I keep pretty good records and last year my records showed that my female colubrids laid their first clutch X number of days from coming out from cooling. I bring them out in small groups each week until they are all out. This staggers the breeding and the egg laying. Those that came out 2 weeks later than the previous year, put down their first clutch 2 weeks later than the previous year. It was pretty consistent within a day or two.

We had some really unseasonably warm temps in March and I am worndering if that sparked my corns to start earlier than normal. Many of my unbrumated females started ovulating while the males were still "sleeping" so I was forced to wake them all up. My first clutch was actually due to hatch about two weeks ago, but I had to leave for about 6 days and during that time I decided to leave the eggs out of the incubator just in case there was a heat wave. Of course just the oppisite happened and temps were very cool while I was gone. So they are finally piping this morning after 71 days!

I expect my only clutch to hatch in about 6 weeks. Assuming all goes well anyway.

Okay, so I was apparently high last week when I was posting. My first clutch is due July 15 and my second is due July 31. I guess I can wait until July to start stressing.

>>My first clutch (6 snows and 4 anerys) hatched April 5th through April 8th.
My second clutch (Creamsicles) started hatching yesterday evening.
Six have fully emerged and four more have pipped.
My third and last clutch of the season (creams) should start hatching in about two weeks.

from our very first snake (which we only bought last weekend) was layed on Tuesday, so if it takes 60 days, that would put us somewhere in the weekend of 7/8th August!!!

Hatching due early August for my one remaining "old-timer's" clutch of 21 (lost my other older breeding female earlier this year). She laid on exactly the same date as last year. If she's following her usual pattern, the second clutch will arrive in late July.

My 4 year old female laid her first clutch of 19 yesterday, so I make that mid-August for their hatching. This is her first planned breeding (she arrived gravid as a rescue and unexpectedly laid 6 eggs in December the year before last), so I have to wait and see if she'll go for a second clutch.

Both "moms" are looking good and this is the first year I've had no slugs at all.
