Lack of Albinos in the chameleon world...

chameleoncrow Jun 10, 2004 02:41 AM

You guys ever wondered to yourself, " why are there albinos in all other species in the reptile trade but chameleons?"

Could it be the fact that breeding among chameleon keepers are restricted; the fact that cross breeding or breeding down the same bloodlines is taboo, or is it a matter of genetics? What do you guys think?

Do share your thoughts!

(and oh...A few of you guys might remember a guy selling albino veilds for 60 thousand a piece last year.)

www.centralcoastreptiles.com Terry has albino Jackson chameleons. Most morphs are created by inbreeding. I do believe that most chame owners and breeders breed mostly unrealted pairs. Last time I was quoted something like 3,500 for an albino jackson chameleon. Personally I dislike morphs because of the reasons stated above. Some are just freaks while others have just been inbred a million times. Anyways just my thoughts,

Though an albino is a bit of a spectacle, why would anyone want to strip a chameleon of one of it's highest regarded virtues? This is an animal famous above all others for it's color, and ability to change color.
