heating a 3' neodesha with sliding front.

HDEAN Jun 10, 2004 07:09 AM

I need to use a 3' Neodesha cage with a sliding glass door temporarily until another cage can be bought. I use to use these for colubrids in a heated room so no extra heat was ever used. I have it in a 80-83 degree heated room and need a little extra hot spot to house a juvenile Retic for a couple of months. Anyone every used supplimented heat with these and if so what do you use? I don't want to overheat this ABS plastic. Thanks, HDEAN

Hi.

I think my post below under the topic of heat tape under 1/8-inch plexiglass should answer your question.

Some people attach the heat tape to the bottom of the cage with strips of tape along the edges. Others lay it flat under the cage. In either case there MUST be breathing room either below or above the heat tape so the heat doesn't build up.

If you can raise the cage off the table about 1/2-inch you can just slide the heat tape under one end. Or raise the cage higher and tape the heat tape under the cage. Either way, make sure there is breathing room for the heat tape.

Bill
