bed a beast

Can anyone recommend any web site that would sell this at a discount? I know I've been people mention that they can be bought in packs of 3 or4 and they aren't as expensive as the stores. I pay $7 for one box and I am sure I have seen people mention a better price. Also does anyone mix this and play sand in their tortoise's home? How much does play sand usually cost? I am just trying to see if it makes more sense to buy the large play sand rather than a smaller bad they sell for $9 at my local pet store.

It would blow you away at what you can find at Home Depot, or similat hardware store, for you tortoies. Playsand usually runs about $3 for 60 lbs. You can use silica/blasting sand as well. Some paranoid folks believe that the silica sand is harmful... it is the same stuff as play sand except that it is graded.

I don't even bother with the bed-a-beast either. I use organic top soil (no additives) and play sand. Costs me like $6 to do all 4 of my enclosures.

Do you know what brand of top soil you usually use? I think that sounds a lot easier to take care of than the bed a beast. I've bought a soil a while back but it was the kind with a those white stones inside. I was told those aren't great for the torts.

I heard of some people using something called Nature's way. I am using one that is made by Long island Compost. but I live on Long Island, I do not know if it is available in other places. I would go to the depot or your local (large) garden center) and ask for a Organic top soil. When you find it just make sure there are no additives, check the ingredients. I even called the company to ensure of its safety b/c I also use it for my frogs so it would be even more deadly for them.

Good luck
