Incubation substrate?

Atlas511 Jun 10, 2004 10:40 AM

My female laid 2 eggs this morning and i have them in the incubator with a small dish with moist sand in it. Is sand going to be ok if i mist if every day or so? Or should i switch it to someting else like vermiculite? I just want to know if sand will do the same job.

I've never used moist sand as an incubating medium myself, but I know someone who has done that this year with great success!.. Personally I use vermiculite, and occasionally have used eco-earth.

Best wishes

I use perlite and follow Albey's Method. It's great because once you get the measurements correct, it's not necessary to re-mist.

We use perlite, I'm not sure how true this is, but I have been told that sand can dry out the eggs...so I'm not really sure about that.
