A birder friend of mine recently sent me this photo of a snake they found in South Texas on a birding trip in March/April. She wondered if I could identify it.....I think I have it narrowed down. Damn that's one good looking Nerodia! 
Actually, it almost looks like this snake could have been a gravid female by the size/shape of the lumps in the posterior part of the body and the fact that it was basking like this. Any thoughts?

That's it's either a heavily gravid female or it's recently eaten another large snake!

I'd go for gravid - the bulk of the snake seems too far back along the body to me due to a meal.

She just emailed me that she spotted the snake while travelling 30mph down a road within the King Ranch.
She was justifiably proud of herself for the spot, especially considering she isn't a herper.
To her credit, not only is she a skilled indigo spotter, she did come down to the edge of a Botswanan river in the middle of the night to hold the flash for me while I took this picture from a few feet away -
Fortunately, the Nile Croc was only about 5 feet long.
