A birder friend of mine recently sent me this photo of a snake they found in South Texas on a birding trip in March/April. She wondered if I could identify it.....I think I have it narrowed down. Damn that's one good looking Nerodia! 
Actually, it almost looks like this snake could have been a gravid female by the size/shape of the lumps in the posterior part of the body and the fact that it was basking like this. Any thoughts?
