Introducing new lizards

m1k3_88 Jun 10, 2004 03:48 PM

I'm pretty new to the forums here, but ive had a male eastern collared for about 2 1/2 years. The other day i got 2female easten collareds from Kevin Sczepanski (Thanks for the collareds, they look great!) The male is in a 33gallon and the females are in a 4foot tank right now. I'm going to let the females get settles first and in a week or two i'd like to put them all together. My question is what is the best way to introduce them all together? I know collareds are very territorial and I dont want to end up with the male eating the females. Thanks, Mike

The males will try to mate...it will look something like a viscous attack, but it is only collared lovin'.

1 of the females still has her breeding colours, my male wasnt cooled and i dont think the females were either. I'm definetly not prepared for babies this season, so how long after her colours go away can i introduce the male into their tank?

If she has her breeding colors, she will likely lay eggs regardless of being with your male. It will just make the difference of being fertile eggs on non-fertile. You can introduce her anytime...I wouldn't worry about it. Either way, you can just toss the eggs out if you aren't prepared for them.

I agree with JohnE, the most you have to worry about is your male lovin your ladies, hehehehe !
