Please HELP, HL keepin his mouth open-WHY????

babydaisy Jun 10, 2004 04:55 PM

Hello, I really need everyones help. Yesterday my HL ate a silkworm and since that hes been sitting in the cage with his mouth open. Is it due to what he ate? Has anyone seen this behaviour before?? I thought it may be due to a lack of humidity in the air? Or is he sick/dying? ...Im really worried, these guys mean the world to me. Please tell me anything you know

Hey there.

I'm not sure whats going on here, but I notice that my HL gapes her mouth when she becomes too hot. In fact all of my lizards do this. Its their way of perspiring. Make sure she gets plenty of water, just in case it is dehydration. and maybe check the overall temp of your enclosure. It may be that its just too hot in there. If its over like 100 F in the whole tank, then obviously, its too hot. I was told that you need to make a wide range in temps in a terrarium,(big enough so that there is enough room for a basking spot, and a place for the animal to go to cool down) so that your pet can safely thermoregulate, and be comfortable. but this is just my thought. It could be something else entirely, so keep asking, and good luck.
